Releve is a move that comes naturally for many- it is easy to practice in varying ways from your youngest dancers through your most advanced dancers. You may do it at the center or at the barre, and it is readily used in a variety of skills and techniques.

However, when teaching and practicing releve, it is important that to reiterate that the weight must be distributed across all of the toes for an even, stable support and balance. Often, dancers will shift the weight to their pinky toe or their big toe, creating an unstable base of support.

Be aware of this nuance and break the habit sooner rather than later! Your dancers will be stronger because of your attention to detail!
