For younger dancers, I love teaching terminology and placement (right side/left side) via call and repeat in my classes.

For example, when lining up to go across the floor, I will encourage students to extend their right foot- I will tap my foot and say “This is my RIGHT foot”- the students will repeat the action and vocals.

We engage in this type of call and repeat for ballet, tap, and jazz terminology, and it amazes me how young students can retain and identify correct, specific movements. Sometimes, to mix it up, I will demonstrate the movement, and the students will have to identify the term.

The students love feeling knowledgeable and connected to the retention, identification, and execution of their skills!
