Happy February! And, Happy One-Month Anniversary to The Dance Exec! Today’s question poses the thought: Are you following your heart?

Here are some very powerful words to consider:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”– Steve Jobs

In college, my plan was to become a criminal attorney. I interned with the North Carolina Attorney General and had the coursework and aptitude to pursue that career path. Instead, at the end of my undergraduate career, I chose to follow my heart and pursue a career in dance, dance education, and dance studio ownership. I have never looked back or questioned my decision.

What choices have led you to your life and career in dance? Did you follow your heart?

Similar experience! I had a successful career going in marketing for a high tech company. Met with the CEO, placed on vision committees. Loved it. But something was missing and had been for a while. So, one day I just decided to get back to my heart, gave my notice, moved to my home town 2 weeks later and here we are!
