Isolations may seem old school, but I always integrate them into my jazz-based classes. It is so important for students to understand how to use certain parts of their body- together and separately.

Isolation exercises can include:

1. Fingers

2. Wrist

3. Shoulders

4. Head

5. Neck

6. Chest

7. Rib cage

8. Hips

9. Ankles

10. Feet

It is important to isolate forwards, backwards, and side to side, as well as in a circular motion.

Once students master specific isolation exercises, it is fun to work on coordination in combining differing parts of the body.
