Chasse is a frequently used vocabulary word (and skill) in dance, but, often, the pronunciation and/or spelling is completely butchered.
I have heard students learn to pronounce it as SA-Shay, neglecting the “ch” sound at the beginning.
I have seen “chasse” spelled as: sashay, shasse, and shasay (yes, even on competition critique sheets).
As teachers and leaders, it is important that we pass along the correct information to our students and dancers. Let’s teach smart, proper information, so our students can confidently and correctly know their vocabulary and terminology.
